Developer builds steel townhouses

A Houston-based developer is building townhouses in Atlanta made of steel coated with aluminum and other metals. "Tin Houses and Loft Living" is the moniker of the Metal Works project.

Larry Davis is building 46 units at 920 Memorial Drive and has plans for another metal-shelled development in Atlanta. Prices start in the $190,000s for a two-bedroom unit with about 1,800 square feet.

Davis says he's been building townhouses out of a steel product named Galvalume for about a decade. He says it's a great alternative to brick and wood and can be colored with baked-on enamel in solids and even stripes. The metal resists damage from fire and hail.
